Disabling Server Message Block Version 1 (SMB v1) in Azure

Well this is refreshing. The Azure security team has made the decision to disable SMB v1 by default on all Windows operating system images available in the Azure Marketplace for creating Azure VMs, effective immediately!

It's about time. I'm happy to see Microsoft make a more secure default, and content in knowing they are adding this as a security baseline setting in the Azure Security Center. Hopefully this will get in the face of IT admins hosting compute in the cloud and get them to harden their systems. With SMB v3 out for some time now, there are few reasons to even consider using the insecure SMB v1 these days.
